How Often Should I Book a Chimney Service?
You should be scheduling chimney and vent services annually. This means scheduling inspections or evaluations for any appliance that is venting through a chimney system or a vent tube. That can include dryers, wood stoves (freestanding and inserts), masonry fireplaces, and if you have a furnace, it can include that as well.
This is what could happen if you don’t have your fireplace/chimney routinely swept and inspected.
My Fireplace Looks Fine…Do I Still Need a Service?
We often talk to people who tell us their chimney, fireplace, or wood stove looks just fine and doesn’t seem to be causing any issues. This can leave you wondering how necessary this annual maintenance is. Is it actually necessary or are us chimney sweeps just being over cautiously?
Rest assured, this industry recommendation for annual inspections is more than necessary. Chimneys can be deceiving, and unless you know how these intricate and complex systems – and the many components that make them up – work, it can be hard to know what’s really going on. We have seen far too many cases where a chimney looks great, but has some dangerous conditions that are not seen unless you get on the inside of the unit – things creosote buildup (that can lead to fires), blockages (that can lead to poor indoor air quality), and more.
That’s why we use spotlights and video cameras to find problem areas like chimney leaks, clogs, or cracks in the flue – all things you can’t see unless you get up-close and personal.
Need a Fireplace Update?
Ready to upgrade your fireplace to something more efficient? Or maybe you’re looking to switch fuel types? Whatever the case, if you have an older wood stove or masonry chimney system, it takes some time to make sure all the right things are done to marry the old with the new – and in some cases, it may be better to replace an appliance for safety reasons. Each change has its own set of circumstances that must be considered and a trusting a professional that does this every day is the best bet for time and safety.
We’re experienced, certified, and more than qualified to help you through this process, keeping your wishes and needs in mind the whole time. For quality chimney services personalized to you, trust us.
