Should I Get a Chimney Inspection?

Absolutely. Even if you don’t use your chimney regularly, both the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) and the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) recommend annual chimney inspections.

Why? Because a lot can be going on within your chimney system that isn’t readily visible to the untrained eye.
What are some issues that may be found during an inspection?

These are a few of the usual suspects:

  • Creosote Buildup: When you burn wood in your fireplace or wood stove, the smoke and exhaust go up through your chimney and begin to cool. This forms a dark residue that clings to the chimney’s walls – a combustible substance we call creosote. Creosote is highly combustible and too much of it could trigger a chimney fire.
  • Structural Damage: Chimneys are prone to water damage and natural wear and tear. Over time, unaddressed moisture levels can lead to brick spalling and flaking mortar. Once bricks start to deteriorate, the structural integrity of your chimney will be compromised. Our inspections ensure all problems are caught early.
  • Animal Activity: Do you ever hear scratching or other weird noises coming from your fireplace? You may have a few unwanted visitors in your midst. Chimneys are a nesting favorite for a lot of small critters like rodents, birds, and raccoons – all of which can leave a path of destruction that puts your chimney at risk.

What Happens During a Chimney Inspection?

There are three levels of chimney inspections, but level 1 is the most common service provided in the industry. During this inspection, one of our technicians will examine the accessible parts of the interior and exterior of your chimney, including the chimney cap, crown, firebox, and more.

Up next, there’s the level 2 inspection that utilizes camera equipment. This overview is a bit more thorough and in-depth, and is required before selling or buying a home. We’ll also recommend this after a storm or natural disaster – or if you’ve recently experienced a chimney fire.

Then, there are the level 3 inspections. These are typically only recommended when we can’t properly assess the system with our basic methods. In these instances, parts of the chimney or the surrounding wall may need to be removed to get a better look.

What Do Our Customers Have To Say?

We’ve been in our townhouse for 5 years & our dryer started turning off by itself. I figured the Dryer Vent needed to be cleaned as our vent has an extremely Long distant to go to the outside. They did my dryer vent the second week of COVID (April 2020). I missed him the first day as he came an hour early. He came back the next day & got all the lint out of my Dryer Vent. No problems since then. Worth the $129. Plan to do every other year as I don’t want my dryer to burn out or a fire.
